The Kia Optima Hybrid Sets a New World Record

It took two drivers 14 days to travel across the United States in a Kia Optima Hybrid. It was a journey of 7,899 miles, and just 123 gallons of gasoline. Yup, they only used five-and-a-half tanks of gas - and they set a Guinness World Record.

Don't worry, this summer, you'll be getting a peek into what it was like for these two professional drivers to set the record. But here's what we know: the drivers were professionals, and they averaged 64.55 miles per gallon. And on the way, they met a guy who was also trying to travel across all 48 contiguous states in an unconventional way - on a pogo stick. In the first commercial for the Optima Hybrid highlighting its journey, they pull over and ask him what he's doing. When he says, "Setting a world record," they respond, "So are we."1

Kia is inviting all of us to get involved this summer at kia.com/hybrid, where you can learn more about the Guinness World Record and learn how to get the most from your gas tank. Michael Sprague, Kia Motor America VP of Marketing, explains that the idea wasn't necessarily to promote the car itself, but it's capabilities. "This lets us tell more of a story," he says. "We were trying to think of creative ways of telling consumers about our new hybrid and...we found there was opportunity to set that Guinness record. We looked at it and figure out that yeah, we could do that."2

The point is, even if you aren't trying to set a world record, the Kia Optima Hybrid is the kind of vehicle that will prove reliable and comfortable, no matter where (or how far) you're driving it. You'll save money at the pump, thanks to its EPA-estimated 35 mpg city/40 mpg highway, and you'll enjoy all the pep of a 206-horsepower, 2.4-liter engine.

Check it out today at Turner Kia, 4201 Chambers Hill Rd Harrisburg, PA 17111. Contact us today to arrange a test drive, or stop by our showroom during our regular business hours to learn more.
